Walt Disney World can be an overwhelming experience of sights, sounds, and smells—even for the most seasoned guests. With so much to see and do, it’s easy to overlook those unique touches that are part of the Walt Disney World story.
Nestled between the Hollywood & Vine Restaurant and the 50s Prime Time Cafe in Disney’s Hollywood Studios is the façade for the Echo Lake Apartments. Every time I pass by the apartments, I stop and wish that I could live there. As a big fan of different styles of architecture, the apartments are representative of the Spanish Colonial Revival buildings constructed in the 1920s in Los Angeles. The design style is marked by smooth stucco walls, low-pitched clay or flat roofs, and small balconies.
At the “entry” to the Echo Lake Apartments is a wrought iron gate. Look to the right—do you see the mailboxes? There are ten mailboxes that reflect the names of the residents who live in the apartments. Who are they?
According to Walt Disney World legend, the names on the mailboxes are Imagineers who worked together to create Disney-MGM Studios in the 1980s. Dave Yanchar, Tim Kirk, Steve Beyer, Tami Empero, John Polk, John Olson, Joe Kilankowski, D. DeGray, John Zovich, Barbara Dietzel, Lei Vais, John Roberdeau Drury, and more.
There is so much to discover and learn at Walt Disney World! So keep your eyes and ears ready!
